TNAU's Distance Education Programs Produce 2200 Successful Entrepreneurs, Says Vice-Chancellor

TNAU Vice-Chancellor Geetha Lakshmi highlights the success of distance education programs, producing 2200 entrepreneurs and benefiting 3330 through diploma courses. New courses and admission details announced.


Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Vice-Chancellor Geetha Lakshmi has announced that the university's Open and Distance Learning Directorate has produced 2200 successful entrepreneurs through its certificate courses. Additionally, 3330 individuals have benefited from diploma programs.

Dr. Geetha Lakshmi stated, "Over 4000 certificate holders in Agricultural Inputs Diploma are now running licensed shops selling fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides across Tamil Nadu." She also mentioned the introduction of four new diploma courses this year.

Regarding eligibility, the Vice-Chancellor explained, "For online certificate and diploma courses, candidates must have passed 12th grade. Other courses are open to those who have passed 10th grade, those who haven't, and individuals of all ages." She detailed the fee structure: Rs. 2,500 for certificate courses, Rs. 3,000 for online learning, Rs. 20,000 for one-year diploma courses, and Rs. 25,000 for the Agricultural Inputs Diploma.

Dr. Geetha Lakshmi encouraged students to seek assistance from TNAU's "Agri Business Directorate" to become entrepreneurs. Addressing current weather conditions, she clarified, "We're currently in the southwest monsoon season, with high chances of receiving average rainfall."

On groundwater, the Vice-Chancellor said, "We analyze groundwater samples brought by farmers and inform them of its properties. We've initiated groundwater studies in collaboration with the Indian government and are providing farmers with techniques for on-site rainwater harvesting."

Discussing artificial intelligence in agriculture, Dr. Geetha Lakshmi revealed plans to use AI for regulating irrigation based on soil moisture, targeted weed control, and harvesting.

Regarding millet production, she mentioned, "Through our 'Center for Millet Excellence', we've introduced high-yielding millet varieties. We're working with farmers to create value-added millet products for marketing."

The Vice-Chancellor concluded by informing that these certificate and diploma courses are available at all colleges under TNAU, allowing interested individuals to study at nearby locations.
