Pollachi District Government Hospital celebrated World Population Day 2023 on July 11, emphasizing family planning and women's health. The event highlighted the importance of responsible family planning and its impact on personal and national development.

Coimbatore: The Pollachi District Government Hospital, in collaboration with the District Family Welfare Department, celebrated World Population Day 2023 with great enthusiasm. The event aimed to raise awareness about family planning and women's health issues.

Dr. Karthikeyan, the acting superintendent of the District Government Hospital, along with Dr. Rajeswari, head of the obstetrics department, Dr. Rajathi, Mrs. Gunavathi, a midwifery assistant, and Mrs. Maheswari Muthaliar, a local counselor, addressed the gathering of expectant mothers.

The theme for this year's World Population Day, "Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations," was explained in detail. The officials emphasized that family planning is not only a matter of personal well-being but also a crucial factor in the development of the nation.

The medical team provided comprehensive information about various family planning methods to the attendees. They stressed the importance of adhering to the legal marriageable age of 18 years and above, explaining the health risks associated with early marriages and pregnancies.

The experts advised maintaining a gap of at least two years between the first and second child, recommending the use of temporary contraceptive methods during this period. They explained that this practice ensures better maternal health and reduces the risk of low birth weight and malnutrition in newborns.

The hospital authorities also informed the gathering about the availability of free medical termination of pregnancy services at government hospitals for valid medical reasons. They highlighted the option of free permanent family planning surgeries available at government hospitals for individuals aged 22 and above who have two children.

The event concluded with a reminder of the "Hum Do, Hamare Do" (We Two, Ours Two) family planning slogan, emphasizing the importance of responsible parenting and the well-being of both parents and children in smaller families.
