Coimbatore district administration issues orange alert due to intensified southwest monsoon. Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected. Safety guidelines announced for public.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district administration has issued an orange alert due to the intensification of the southwest monsoon, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in the region. In light of this, the district administration has recently announced a set of safety guidelines for the public to follow.

According to the guidelines, residents of Coimbatore district are advised to avoid bathing, swimming, fishing, leisure activities, or taking selfies near water bodies due to the widespread rainfall in the area. People living in riverside areas and low-lying regions prone to water logging are urged to move to safer locations during rainfall.

The public is instructed to stay indoors during rainy periods and avoid areas with high-voltage electricity and near electric poles. Residents are also advised to handle household electrical appliances safely. It is recommended to stay away from damaged and dilapidated buildings as well as areas under trees.

Those residing in houses with damaged roofs, mud walls, dilapidated buildings, and low-lying areas are strongly advised to relocate to safer places, considering the potential impact of heavy rainfall.

Livestock owners are instructed to move their animals to safe locations before flood waters rise, and are warned against tying animals to electric poles.

The district administration has provided a toll-free number, 1077, for the public to report any flood-related emergencies or personal difficulties.

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has stated that residents in low-lying areas whose houses are surrounded by water can contact the toll-free number 1077 if they wish to be accommodated in relief camps. The administration is prepared to assist those in need during this period of heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
