One Dead, Four Injured as Poultry Farm Collapses Near Pollachi Due to Heavy Rain

A poultry farm in Gengampalayam near Pollachi collapsed due to heavy rain, resulting in one death and four injuries. The incident occurred amidst ongoing rainfall in the Western Ghats region.


Coimbatore: A tragic incident unfolded near Pollachi as heavy rains caused the collapse of a poultry farm in Gengampalayam area, resulting in the death of a North Indian female worker and injuries to four others. The incident occurred amidst continuous rainfall in the Western Ghats region, including Pollachi and Valparai, over the past few days.

The poultry farm, owned by Muruganandham, a local resident of Gengampalayam, employed five North Indian workers.



On the day of the incident, strong winds accompanied by heavy rain led to the collapse of the farm structure, trapping the owner and the workers under the debris.



Memdasingh (33), a female worker from North India, tragically lost her life at the scene. Upon receiving information from nearby residents, ambulance staff rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped individuals. The injured were immediately transported to the Pollachi Government Hospital for treatment.



The four injured individuals receiving medical care are Muruganandham (45), the farm owner, Revathi (40), Ravisingh (46), and Konamika (20).



The Kottur Police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation into the incident.

This unfortunate event highlights the potential dangers posed by severe weather conditions in the region and the need for adequate safety measures in such establishments.
