MLA Vanathi Srinivasan requests Commissioner to renovate Hindu crematorium at Athupalam

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan petitioned Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran on July 22 to renovate the Hindu crematorium at Athupalam, addressing issues before Aadi 18 observances.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has submitted a petition to Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran on July 22, requesting the renovation of the Hindu crematorium at Athupalam in Coimbatore.

The crematorium, located on Kuniyamuthur Road near Athupalam, has been a site for Hindu rituals honoring the deceased, especially during Aadi 18 (August 3, 2024). However, the current condition of the crematorium poses difficulties for the public to perform their traditional observances.

Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted that the burial grounds are overgrown with thorny bushes, making it challenging for people to conduct their rituals. In her petition, she requested the Corporation to clear the thorny bushes and provide essential facilities such as drinking water, salt water, and temporary toilet facilities.

The MLA emphasized the importance of these renovations, particularly in view of the upcoming Aadi 18 observances, when many Hindus traditionally pay homage to their departed loved ones. By addressing these issues, the Corporation would be facilitating the continuation of this long-standing cultural practice and ensuring that the public can perform their rituals with dignity and ease.

The Corporation Commissioner has received the petition, and it is expected that appropriate action will be taken to address the concerns raised by the MLA before the significant date of Aadi 18.
