Six arrested for cockfighting and gambling in crematorium near Singanallur, Coimbatore

Singanallur police arrested six individuals for organizing cockfights and gambling at a crematorium near Kallimadai area on July 21. Two roosters and Rs. 7,000 were seized during the raid.


Coimbatore: The Singanallur police arrested six people for organizing cockfights and gambling at a crematorium near Kallimadai area in Singanallur, Coimbatore. The arrests were made following a tip-off about illegal activities taking place at the cremation grounds.

Acting on the information, Sub-Inspector Kuralarasan conducted a surprise raid on the evening of July 21. During the operation, the police apprehended six individuals who were actively engaged in cockfighting and betting.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramachandran (45) and Thangavel (42) from Rajalakshmi Mill area in Singanallur, Suresh (49) from SIDCO Nagarajapuram, Karuppusamy (38), Vigneswaran (32), and Manoj Kumar (20) from Kallimadai.

The police seized two roosters that were being used for the fights and confiscated Rs. 7,000 in cash, which was reportedly being used for gambling. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the law for organizing and participating in illegal cockfights and gambling activities.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal gambling and animal fights in the region, prompting authorities to increase vigilance and take strict action against such activities.
