Coimbatore police arrested a TASMAC employee for illegally selling liquor at inflated prices near Nanjundapuram electric crematorium. The suspect, from Pudukkottai district, was caught with 20 bottles during a raid on July 22.

Coimbatore: A TASMAC bar employee was arrested on Saturday, July 22, for illegally hoarding and selling liquor bottles at inflated prices near the electric crematorium on Nanjundapuram Road in Coimbatore.

The Ramanathapuram police received a tip-off about the illegal sale of alcohol near the crematorium. Acting on this information, they conducted a surprise raid in the area on Saturday evening.

During the raid, the police discovered the illegal operation and apprehended the suspect, identified as Thirumoorthy, aged 30, from Pudukkottai district. Thirumoorthy was employed as a worker at a nearby TASMAC bar.

The police seized 20 liquor bottles from the suspect's possession. These bottles were allegedly being sold at prices higher than the official rates set by TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation).

Authorities have taken Thirumoorthy into custody and are conducting further investigations to determine if there are any other individuals involved in this illegal liquor sale operation. The case highlights the ongoing issues of bootlegging and unauthorized alcohol sales in the region, despite strict regulations on liquor distribution in Tamil Nadu.
