Water Supply Disrupted in Pollachi Due to Major Pipeline Burst

A sudden burst in the main water pipeline near Vijayapuram has led to widespread water supply disruption in Pollachi. The incident occurred while water was being released from overhead tanks to thousands of households.

Coimbatore: Residents of Pollachi town in Coimbatore district are facing a severe water crisis following a major pipeline burst. The incident occurred on the route from Pollachi to Palladam, affecting water supply to thousands of households in various areas including Vijayapuram, Rathinasabapathipuram, and Mahalakshmi Nagar.

The overhead water tanks located in Mahalingapuram and Anna Nagar areas of Pollachi supply purified water from the Ambarampalayam River to the public through large pipelines. On the day of the incident, water was being released from these tanks to approximately a thousand homes when suddenly, the main pipeline near Vijayapuram burst.

Water gushed out to a height of about 15 feet, creating a river-like flow on the road. Despite nearby residents promptly informing the Municipal Water Board officials, a significant amount of drinking water, estimated to be several lakh liters, was wasted before action could be taken.

The pipeline burst has severely impacted the water supply to various areas including Vijayapuram, Rathinasabapathipuram, and Mahalakshmi Nagar. Local authorities are working to address the issue, but residents are likely to face water shortages until repairs are completed.

This incident highlights the need for regular maintenance and prompt response systems to prevent such large-scale water wastage and supply disruptions in the future.
