Flash Flood at Panchalinga Falls Halts Rituals at Amanalingeswarar Temple

Heavy overnight rains in Udumalpet's catchment areas caused a flash flood at Panchalinga Falls, submerging Amanalingeswarar Temple and suspending rituals. Tourists banned from bathing due to continued rainfall.

Coimbatore: The Panchalinga Falls in Udumalpet, Tiruppur district, experienced a sudden surge in water flow following heavy rains in its catchment areas on Monday night. The downpour in various regions including Kurumalai, Kuzhippatti, and Jallimuthan Parai has led to a flash flood, with water overflowing the barriers at the falls.

The unexpected deluge has submerged the Amanalingeswarar Temple located at the base of the falls, forcing the authorities to suspend all rituals and pujas. Temple officials have announced that devotees will be allowed for darshan only after the floodwaters recede from the temple premises.

"Due to the continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of Panchalinga Falls, we have imposed a ban on tourists bathing in the falls today," stated a representative from the temple administration. This precautionary measure has been taken to ensure the safety of visitors, given the unpredictable water levels.

The sudden flood has not only disrupted religious activities but has also affected the local tourism. The Panchalinga Falls, a popular destination for both pilgrims and nature enthusiasts, will remain closed for bathing until further notice.

Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised residents and tourists to stay away from the falls and its surrounding areas until the water levels normalize. The temple administration is working in coordination with the district officials to assess the damage and plan for the resumption of regular activities once the flood situation improves.
