Modern X-ray Machine Installed at Coimbatore Bird Rehabilitation Center

A state-of-the-art X-ray machine worth Rs. 9 lakhs has been installed at the Bird Rehabilitation Center in Coimbatore Forest College campus, enhancing treatment capabilities for injured and sick birds.

Coimbatore: The Bird Rehabilitation Center at the Coimbatore Forest College campus has received a significant upgrade with the installation of a modern X-ray machine worth Rs. 9 lakhs. The new equipment was inaugurated on July 24 by S. Ramasubramanian, the Coimbatore Regional Conservator of Forests.

The center, established in 2012, has been instrumental in rescuing and rehabilitating various species of birds. According to Vinny and Joseph, the center's administrators, the facility has successfully rehabilitated over 10,000 birds from 110 different species to date. The center currently provides treatment to a diverse range of birds including peacocks, vultures, parrots, cuckoos, crows, owls, herons, and bulbuls.

With the addition of the X-ray machine, the center can now provide more accurate diagnoses and targeted treatments for injured birds. The facility also plans to set up a veterinary hospital on the premises to further enhance its capabilities.

The Bird Rehabilitation Center operates from 9 AM to 6 PM daily. The public can report injured or distressed birds that need rehabilitation by contacting the District Forest Department at 1800 425 45456 or the Bird Rehabilitation Center directly at 96260 11011.

To demonstrate the new equipment's capabilities, an X-ray was taken of an injured male peacock on Wednesday. The event was attended by notable personalities including Kumarpal Daga, President of the Rotary Club, Premkumar, Assistant Governor, Nagarajan, Forest College Researcher, A. Sukumar, Forest Veterinarian, and S. Varun, Managing Director of ARC Enterprises.

This new addition to the Bird Rehabilitation Center marks a significant step forward in wildlife conservation efforts in Coimbatore, providing enhanced care and treatment for the region's avian population.
