MLA Vanathi Srinivasan: Tamil Nadu Government Should Not Interfere in Hindu Religious Rights

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan criticizes the Tamil Nadu government's interference in Hindu religious practices, particularly regarding annadanam and sea aarthi at Tiruchendur temple.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has recently issued a statement criticizing the Tamil Nadu government's interference in Hindu religious practices. She emphasized that the state government, which controls temples, should not infringe upon the worship rights of Hindus.

Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted that Hindus consider providing annadanam (food offerings) to devotees during festivals as a crucial duty. She pointed out that various organizations, including the Andal Bhaktar Peravai, have been offering annadanam to devotees on full moon days at the Tiruchendur Subramaniya Swamy Temple.

However, during the recent Aadi Pournami, the police and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department officials reportedly prevented the distribution of annadanam. Additionally, they halted the sea aarthi ritual performed at Tiruchendur. The MLA condemned these actions, stating that they are worthy of criticism.

Vanathi Srinivasan argued that government interference in devotees' worship rights goes against the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution. She noted that the Tamil Nadu government does not intervene in the religious matters of other faiths and should maintain the same stance regarding Hindu religious practices.

The MLA urged that the state government should not obstruct religious practices such as annadanam in temples and sea aarthi rituals. She called upon Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to intervene in this matter and issue appropriate instructions to both the police department and the HR&CE Department.

Vanathi Srinivasan's statement underscores the growing tension between the state government and Hindu religious practices in Tamil Nadu, particularly concerning temple administration and religious freedoms.
