Two fined Rs.60,000 for attempting to sell wild boar meat in Coimbatore

Two men were caught attempting to sell wild boar meat in Coimbatore. They were fined Rs.60,000 by the Forest Department after being caught with 15 kg of wild boar meat.


Coimbatore: Two men were fined Rs.60,000 for attempting to sell wild boar meat in Coimbatore. The incident occurred on July 24 near Mangaarai, which falls under the Coimbatore Forest Range.

A wild boar was killed in a vehicle collision on the Anaikatti-Coimbatore road near Mangaarai. Two individuals, Marudhasalam and Ranganathan from Thadagam Kuttaveli, spotted the dead animal and decided to take it. They proceeded to cut the boar into pieces with the intention of selling the meat.

Forest Department officials on patrol noticed the suspicious activity and apprehended the two men. They were then taken to the Coimbatore Forest Range office for questioning.

During the investigation, officials seized 15 kilograms of wild boar meat from the duo. Subsequently, a fine of Rs.60,000 was imposed on them for their illegal actions.

The Forest Department has warned the public against such activities, emphasizing that hunting or selling meat of wild animals is a punishable offense under wildlife protection laws.
