A house in Kamachi Nagar, Kovaipudur was burgled on July 24, with thieves breaking the lock and stealing 14 sovereigns of gold jewelry. The incident occurred while the elderly homeowner was away visiting relatives.

Coimbatore: In a brazen act of theft, burglars broke into a house in Kamachi Nagar, Kovaipudur, and made off with 14 sovereigns of gold jewelry. The incident came to light on July 24, when the homeowner was away visiting relatives in Thiruvananthapuram.

The victim, Geetha (72), wife of Gurumoorthy, had left her house locked on July 22 to visit her relatives in Thiruvananthapuram. On the evening of July 24, Muthulakshmi, the domestic help, noticed that the front door lock of Geetha's house had been broken. She immediately informed Geetha about the situation.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that 14 sovereigns of gold jewelry stored in the almirah were missing. Geetha promptly filed a complaint with the Kuniyamuthur Police Station. Inspector Manivannan has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the theft.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of unoccupied houses in the area, especially those belonging to elderly residents. Local police have advised residents to inform their neighbors or install security systems when leaving their homes unattended for extended periods.

As the investigation continues, authorities are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and questioning potential witnesses to gather leads on the perpetrators. The police have also urged the public to come forward with any information that might assist in solving the case and recovering the stolen jewelry.
