Mettupalayam Municipality Employees Work Wearing Demand Cards

On July 25, Mettupalayam Municipality employees worked wearing demand cards, urging for salary through government treasury and implementation of old pension scheme.

Coimbatore: Employees of the Mettupalayam Municipality office wore demand cards while performing their duties on Thursday, July 25. This unique form of protest was organized by the Tamil Nadu Municipal and Corporation Officers and Employees Coordination Committee to highlight their various demands.

The primary demands of the municipal employees include the disbursement of salaries and pensions through the government treasury, implementation of transfers through consultation, and reinstatement of the old pension scheme. By wearing these demand cards during their work hours, the employees aimed to peacefully yet effectively communicate their concerns to the authorities.

This method of protest allowed the municipal staff to continue their regular duties while simultaneously drawing attention to their grievances. The action taken by the Mettupalayam Municipality employees reflects a growing trend of innovative ways to voice concerns in the public sector, balancing the need to maintain services with the desire to advocate for better working conditions and benefits.

The Tamil Nadu Municipal and Corporation Officers and Employees Coordination Committee, which spearheaded this initiative, has been actively working to address various issues faced by municipal employees across the state. This peaceful demonstration in Mettupalayam is part of their ongoing efforts to engage with the government and seek favorable resolutions to their long-standing demands.
