Cattle Traders Accuse AIADMK Members of Extortion at Pollachi Market

Cattle traders in Pollachi allege AIADMK members are extorting money from vehicles bringing cattle to the market. Traders seek police protection after filing a complaint with the Pollachi Superintendent of Police.

Coimbatore: The State Cattle Traders Association has accused members of the AIADMK party of extorting money from vehicles transporting cattle to the Pollachi cattle market. The allegations were raised during an executive committee meeting of the association held at the market premises, attended by cattle traders and vehicle owners.

According to the traders, for the past few days, some individuals affiliated with the AIADMK have been stopping vehicles bringing cattle to the market and demanding money. The association passed a resolution seeking protection for cattle traders from this alleged extortion.

Based on this resolution, members of the Cattle Traders Association submitted a petition to the Pollachi Superintendent of Police, requesting security measures. The traders claimed that AIADMK members were demanding up to Rs. 10,000 from vehicles coming from outside areas and Rs. 1,000 from local vehicles. They also alleged that these individuals were threatening to send the cattle to goshalas (cow shelters) if the money was not paid.

The cattle traders have appealed for immediate police intervention and protection to ensure the smooth functioning of their business at the Pollachi cattle market. The association emphasized the need for a safe environment for conducting trade without fear of extortion or threats.
