Slow Sales at Pollachi Cattle Market

The Pollachi cattle market saw sluggish sales on August 6, with only 700 out of 1,500 cattle sold. Traders attribute the slow business to the absence of Kerala buyers.

Coimbatore: The cattle market in Pollachi, held on August 6, witnessed a sluggish response from buyers, with a significant number of cattle remaining unsold. The market, which is known for its regular cattle trade, saw a total of 1,500 cattle brought for sale.

According to traders, milch cows were priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000, while Jersey breed cows were sold for Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. Despite these competitive prices, only about 700 cattle were sold during the market day.

The remaining 800 cattle had to be taken back by their owners as they failed to find buyers. Traders at the market pointed out that the absence of buyers from Kerala was a major factor contributing to the slow sales. The Kerala market has traditionally been a significant source of demand for cattle from the Pollachi market.

This dip in sales has raised concerns among local cattle traders about the current state of the livestock market in the region. The Pollachi cattle market, which usually sees brisk business, is an important economic activity for many farmers and traders in the area.
