Podanur Train Users' Association Urges TNSTC to Restore Bus Services

Podanur Train Users' Association has called on TNSTC Coimbatore Ltd. to reinstate bus services that were suspended due to underground drainage work and COVID lockdown. The association cites increased need with Podanur railway station's growing importance.

Coimbatore: The Podanur Train Users' Association has appealed to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Coimbatore Ltd., to restore bus services that were discontinued during the underground drainage work and COVID lockdown. The association expressed disappointment that services have not resumed despite the completion of these projects.

N. Subramanian, general secretary of Podanur Train Users' Association, and Mohammed Nazir, association president, submitted a petition to TNSTC, Coimbatore Ltd., highlighting the need for restored and increased bus services. They pointed out that even after the completion of the Athupalam bridge construction, which was cited as a reason for service suspension, bus routes have not been reinstated.

The association emphasized the growing importance of Podanur railway station, which is gaining status as a second terminus for Coimbatore city. With express trains now stopping at Podanur, there is an increased demand for bus services to various parts of the city to cater to passengers alighting at the station.

The petition called for more bus services to key areas including Gandhipuram, Saravanampatti, Peelamedu, Airport, Thudiyalur, Vadavalli, Marudhamalai, Perur, and Isha Yoga Centre. These routes are crucial for both railway passengers and local residents.

The Podanur Train Users' Association specifically requested the restoration of several bus services, including:

1. Srinivasan Nagar to Kovilmedu via Saibaba Colony (4c)

2. Srinivasan Nagar to Avarampalayam (4c)

3. Podanur to Irugur via Sundarapuram (8)

4. Vellalur to Saibaba Colony via Nanjundapuram (19A)

5. Gandhipuram to Panappatti via Sundarapuram (73A)

6. Gandhipuram to Mayileripalayam via Sundarapuram (73B)

7. Podanur to Chinthamaniputhur (8A)

8. Coimbatore to Senjerimalai via Podanur (8B)

9. Podanur to Narasimanaickenpalayam (4A)

10. Podanur to Irugur (8A)

The association hopes that the restoration of these services will significantly improve public transportation options for residents and visitors in the Podanur area and enhance connectivity across Coimbatore city.
