FIR process computerised

The police on April 1 introduced the system of handing over computerised copies of first Information reports to complainants.

According to sources, all police stations in the city, and specialised units like the Central Crime Branch will issue the computerised FIRs after the police soft launched the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System.

The full launch will be on April 15, as part of the State-wide launch.

They said that on the first day of the launch on Friday, there were some teething troubles.

The network system experts and personnel from the State Crime Records Bureau were assisting the data entry operators in sorting out the problem.

At the Singanallur Police Station, software faced some problem, which the experts were trying to fix.

Once the details were entered in the computer, the machine would generate computerised FIRs with security features, officials said.

This would help in better administration of police stations.

The Coimbatore City Police had been updating details in the tracking network by uploading FIRs registered since 2002.

They trained their manpower to be conversant with the network.
