YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar Granted Conditional Bail in Second Coimbatore Case

YouTuber A. Shankar alias 'Savukku' Shankar received conditional bail on Friday in Coimbatore for a case involving alleged derogatory remarks against freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar. This marks his second bail in Coimbatore cases.

Coimbatore: YouTuber A. Shankar, popularly known as 'Savukku' Shankar, was granted conditional bail on Friday in the second case registered against him in Coimbatore. The bail was granted by Fourth Judicial Magistrate R. Saravana Babu for the case filed by the Race Course police in May this year.

The case pertains to alleged derogatory remarks made against freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar. YouTuber Felix Gerald is also named as an accused in this case, as the controversial interview was posted on his YouTube channel 'Red Pix 24x7' in October 2023.

This bail marks the resolution of both cases against Shankar in Coimbatore. Earlier, on July 26, he was granted bail in the first case registered by the Coimbatore city cybercrime police. That case involved alleged derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu police personnel in a YouTube interview.

Due to the ongoing boycott by Coimbatore court lawyers protesting the new criminal laws implemented by the Union government, advocate Mowli Vellimalai from Delhi represented Shankar in court.

A lawyer associated with Shankar stated that he has now been granted bail in all cases registered against him across various districts. This includes a detention order under the Goondas Act served on August 12, 2024, related to an alleged ganja possession case in Theni.
