Kadampadi Panchayat Demands Withdrawal of Air Force Station's NOC for Construction in Coimbatore

Kadampadi panchayat passed a resolution demanding withdrawal of NOC from Air Force Station, Sulur for construction activities within 4 km radius, citing difficulties for residents.

Coimbatore: The Kadampadi panchayat, which shares a boundary with the Air Force Station in Sulur, passed a resolution on Thursday demanding the withdrawal of the no-objection certificate (NOC) requirement imposed by the air base for construction activities.

The resolution was passed during a gram sabha meeting held at Sengathurai, led by Kadampadi panchayat president Indrani Thangaraj. The panchayat, with 12 wards and a population of about 22,000, including 9,000 voters, has been facing challenges due to the NOC requirement.

Thangaraj explained that while construction activities were previously restricted within 100 meters of the air base boundary, the recent mandate requires residents to obtain an NOC for any construction within a 4 km radius of the base.

"The NOC has become a huge hurdle for construction activities in the panchayat," Thangaraj stated. She highlighted the difficulties faced by residents in obtaining the NOC, which involves approaching the air base administration, obtaining entry passes, and securing security clearances.

The panchayat president further revealed that the cumbersome process has led to growing frustration among the residents. "People are enraged over the NOC requirement and some are even constructing buildings without obtaining it," she added.

The resolution passed by the Kadampadi panchayat reflects the local community's concerns over the impact of the NOC requirement on development activities in the area. The panchayat hopes that this move will lead to a reconsideration of the current regulations and ease the construction process for residents living near the Air Force Station.
