Additional Secretary of Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry Inspects Pillur-III Drinking Water Project in Coimbatore

T. Thara IAS, Additional Secretary (AMRUT) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, inspected the Rs. 780 crore Pillur-III drinking water project in Coimbatore on August 17, 2024. The project aims to meet the water needs of Coimbatore residents.


Coimbatore: T. Thara IAS, Additional Secretary (AMRUT) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, conducted an inspection of the Pillur-III drinking water project in Coimbatore on August 17, 2024. The project, valued at Rs. 780 crore, has been implemented to meet the drinking water needs of Coimbatore Corporation residents.



The inspection was conducted in the presence of Vivekanandan IAS, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDCO), and M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner.



The Pillur-III project is divided into three parts, including a raw water collection point, a treatment plant, and a pipeline system.



The project starts from Murugan Parisalthurai in Nellithurai Panchayat, Mettupalayam, and extends to six overhead tanks within Coimbatore Corporation limits. The first part consists of a raw water collection station with electric motor-operated pumps and air valves at Murugan Parisalthurai.





During the inspection, T. Thara visited the main pumping station of Pillur Joint Drinking Water Scheme-III at Murugan Parisalthurai, the 178 MLD water treatment plant at Thandiperumalpuram in Maruthur Panchayat, and the main water pipeline in the Katanmalai area tunnel.



She inquired about the project's operations from the officials present.





The Additional Secretary also inspected the modern, internet-based water distribution system serving about 400 houses in Cheran Nagar (Ward 17, West Zone).





Additionally, she visited the 24x7 water supply main overhead tank and the water quality testing laboratory in Ganapathy, Ramakrishnapuram area (Ward 21, North Zone).

The inspection team included various officials from TUFIDCO, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, Coimbatore Corporation, and other related departments. Notable attendees were Murugan, General Manager (TUFIDCO), Sellamuthu, Chief Engineer (Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board), Anbazhagan, Corporation Chief Engineer, and several other engineers and council members.
