Coimbatore's Saravanan Selected as Certified Fencing Coach

Saravanan from Coimbatore has been selected as a certified coach for all types of fencing competitions after completing training at the National Institute of Sports in Punjab.



Coimbatore: Saravanan, a fencing enthusiast from Coimbatore, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming a certified coach for all types of fencing competitions. He received an enthusiastic welcome at the railway station upon his return from Punjab, where he completed his training at the National Institute of Sports.

Fencing, an Olympic sport, comprises three disciplines: foil, sabre, and épée. In Tamil Nadu, school and college students are showing increasing interest in fencing, with many achieving success at the national level.

Saravanan, who received training from the Coimbatore District Fencing Association, participated in a selection process conducted by the National Institute of Sports. He successfully qualified as an A-grade certified coach, bringing pride to Coimbatore.

The selection process was held at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala, Punjab, which functions as an educational wing of the Sports Authority of India. Approximately 60 participants from various states took part in the selection, with Saravanan emerging successful and earning the qualification to work as a nationally recognized fencing coach.

Upon his return to Coimbatore, Saravanan was given a warm reception at the railway station by members of the Coimbatore District Fencing Association. The welcoming committee included Thyagu Nagaraj, Secretary of the Coimbatore District Fencing Association, Sivamurugan, Treasurer, and other members such as Aravind, Vidu Shankar, Vimal, Prasanth, Pavilas, and Devadarshini.

The association members congratulated Saravanan on his achievement and expressed their pride in having a certified fencing coach from Coimbatore. This accomplishment is expected to boost the profile of fencing in the region and inspire more young athletes to take up the sport.
