Leopard Sighting in Iyerpadi: Forest Department Issues Alert

A leopard was spotted in Iyerpadi area of Valparai, Coimbatore district, on August 18. The Forest Department has issued an alert, urging two-wheeler riders to exercise caution during night travel.

Coimbatore: The Valparai region in Coimbatore district has been witnessing an increase in wildlife intrusions lately. In recent times, leopards have been frequently spotted inside residential areas of Valparai, causing fear among the local residents.

On August 18, a video of a leopard prowling along the roadside in the Iyerpadi area on the Valparai-Pollachi road went viral on social media. The night-time footage has raised concerns about the safety of commuters, especially two-wheeler riders.

In response to this sighting, the Forest Department has issued a warning to the public. They have specifically urged two-wheeler riders to exercise extreme caution while traveling during nighttime hours in the area. This precautionary measure aims to prevent any potential human-wildlife conflicts and ensure the safety of both residents and the wild animals.

The increasing frequency of leopard sightings in populated areas of Valparai highlights the growing challenge of human-wildlife coexistence in the region. As human settlements expand closer to forest areas, such encounters are becoming more common, necessitating heightened awareness and precautionary measures from both the authorities and the local population.

The Forest Department is likely to increase patrols and monitoring in the area to track the movement of leopards and other wildlife. They may also consider implementing additional measures to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
