Coimbatore MP: 'CM Fulfilled Promise on Airport Expansion, Now Centre Should Act Swiftly'

Coimbatore MP Ganapathi Rajkumar addressed reporters about the Coimbatore Airport expansion project, praising the Tamil Nadu government's swift action and urging the central government to expedite the process.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore MP Ganapathi Rajkumar, along with District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran, and City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan, addressed reporters at the District Collector's office regarding the Coimbatore Airport expansion project.

MP Rajkumar stated, "On the 16th, after consultations with the Chief Minister, ministers, and all department officials, the land acquisition process for the Coimbatore Airport expansion has been completed. The pre-entry permission for the Airports Authority of India has been granted by the state government, and a copy was received by our District Collector yesterday."

He further added, "Regarding the Coimbatore Airport expansion, the then DMK government first issued an order about land acquisition in 2010. Now, after so many years, it has been concluded again under the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam rule. Within two to three months after the election, the Chief Minister has made a good decision and given this good news as a gift to the people of Coimbatore. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has fulfilled his promise as stated, and now it's up to the central government to act swiftly on this."

Addressing the Metro project, Rajkumar said, "We have compiled all the information for the Metro work and submitted it to the central government. However, the central government has not taken it into consideration. We have done our part; now if they allocate funds and state their contribution, we are ready."

District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati provided details on the land acquisition: "For the Coimbatore Airport expansion, 662 acres have been acquired, of which 468.83 acres are patta land. 97% of the process is complete. We are currently granting permission for 451 acres. Of the remaining 16 acres, 8 acres are involved in a court case. The remaining is OSR land of three acres, and two more acres are to be acquired. We have set a target to complete this by the end of this month, except for the land involved in court cases, which will be dealt with according to the court's verdict."

Regarding the proposed cricket stadium in Coimbatore, the Collector said, "Tenders have been invited for the cricket stadium design. Only after the design is finalized can we prepare estimates and proceed with the next steps."

He also mentioned a recent meeting with medical college principals: "We held a consultation meeting yesterday with all medical college principals regarding basic facilities and security measures. We have asked them to submit a report on actions taken, including maintenance of toilets and repairing CCTV cameras, by the 30th of this month."
