In Coimbatore, three individuals attacked an 8th-grade student with a knife, attempting to steal his phone. Police arrested two suspects and caught the third after he injured himself while trying to escape.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident near Peelamedu, Coimbatore, three men attacked an 8th-grade student with a knife on Thursday night, attempting to rob him of his mobile phone. The student was returning home after attending tuition classes when the assault occurred.

The Coimbatore City Police swiftly acted on the case, arresting two suspects identified as Aiyappan and Tamilselvan. They were remanded to judicial custody. The third suspect, Kannan, remained at large, prompting a manhunt by the police.

The Sulur special team received information about Kannan's whereabouts and proceeded to apprehend him. During the arrest attempt, Kannan fell into a ditch, fracturing his hand. The police provided immediate medical attention, bandaging his injured hand before taking him into custody.

Further investigation revealed that Kannan had a previous criminal record. The Sulur police station had registered a robbery case against him in 2021, highlighting his history of involvement in similar offenses.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of students in the area, especially those attending evening tuition classes. Local residents have urged the police to increase patrols and take preventive measures to ensure the security of young students traveling alone at night.

The swift action by the Coimbatore City Police in apprehending all three suspects has been commended by the community. However, this case underscores the need for continued vigilance and community cooperation to prevent such attacks on vulnerable individuals.
