Coimbatore: The decomposed body of a 31-year-old engineer was discovered in a rented house in Uppilipalayam, Coimbatore, on September 1. The deceased, identified as Manikandan, was a native of Karuvallur near Avinashi in Tiruppur district.

Manikandan, an engineering graduate and unmarried, had been living alone in the rented accommodation. According to sources, he had been investing in the online stock market and was reportedly facing significant losses, which had been causing him mental distress.

Neighbors alerted Manikandan's parents when a foul odor emanated from his room. The parents, who rushed to Coimbatore on September 1, informed the police. The Singanallur police arrived at the scene and broke open the door to find Manikandan had died by suicide.

The police recovered the body and sent it to the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and the Singanallur police are currently investigating the extent of financial losses Manikandan might have incurred in the stock market investments.

Manikandan had not been in contact with anyone for the past two days before his death was discovered. The incident has highlighted the potential risks associated with online stock market investments and the importance of mental health support.
