Kovai Kutralam Reopens After Two-Month Closure Due to Flooding

Forest officials announce the reopening of Kovai Kutralam eco-tourism site on September 3, 2024, after a two-month closure due to flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains.

Coimbatore: The popular eco-tourism destination, Kovai Kutralam, is set to reopen on September 3, 2024, after being closed for two months due to severe flooding. Forest department officials made the announcement, bringing relief to nature enthusiasts and local tourism stakeholders.

The closure was necessitated by the heavy monsoon rains that lashed the Western Ghats region, causing flash floods in the forest streams. The Kovai Kutralam waterfall, a key attraction of the site, experienced a dangerous surge in water levels, prompting authorities to restrict public access for safety reasons.

Officials reported that the water flow has now returned to normal levels, making it safe for visitors to resume bathing activities at the waterfall. The decision to reopen the site was taken after a thorough assessment of the ground situation and ensuring that all safety measures are in place.

The Kovai Kutralam, often referred to as the Kutralam of Kongu region," is a significant eco-tourism spot that attracts thousands of visitors, especially during the summer months. The reopening is expected to boost local tourism and provide a much-needed respite for people seeking to enjoy the natural beauty of the Western Ghats.

Visitors are advised to follow safety guidelines and instructions provided by the forest department staff at the site. The authorities will continue to monitor the water levels and weather conditions to ensure the ongoing safety of tourists at Kovai Kutralam.
