Hindu Organizations Meet with Police Ahead of Vinayagar Chaturthi in Sulur, Coimbatore

A consultation meeting was held at Sulur Police Station in Coimbatore on September 3 with Hindu organizations to discuss preparations for Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations.

Coimbatore: A consultation meeting was held today (Sept. 3) at the Sulur Police Station in Coimbatore with Hindu organizations in preparation for Vinayagar Chaturthi. Representatives from Hindu Munnani and Vishva Hindu Parishad participated in this consultative meeting.

The Hindu organization members emphasized that due to the presence of sewage in the Noyyal River, it would not be possible to immerse Vinayagar idols there. They urged the district administration to provide an alternative location, suggesting a small pond for the immersion of the idols.

The meeting aimed to ensure smooth conduct of the festival while addressing environmental concerns. Police officials listened to the suggestions and concerns raised by the Hindu organization representatives regarding the upcoming celebrations.

Vinayagar Chaturthi, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, is a major Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha. The festival typically concludes with the immersion of Ganesha idols in water bodies, a practice that has raised environmental concerns in recent years.

The discussion at Sulur Police Station reflects the ongoing efforts to balance religious traditions with environmental protection. The outcome of this meeting and the district administration's response to the alternative immersion site request remain to be seen as the festival approaches.
