Coimbatore: In a race against time, a 7-day-old infant with a congenital heart defect was transported from Trichy to Coimbatore for urgent heart surgery. The ambulance, accompanied by police escort, covered the distance in just two and a half hours.

The newborn, diagnosed with a heart condition at the Trichy Government Hospital, was referred to the Ramakrishna Hospital in Coimbatore due to its advanced medical equipment. The ambulance departed from Trichy around 1 PM, with police assistance ensuring a swift journey through traffic.

Law enforcement created a green corridor along the entire route, allowing the ambulance to proceed without any obstacles. Thanks to these efforts, the infant safely reached Ramakrishna Hospital in Coimbatore in two and a half hours.

Ambulance driver Ashwin stated, "The doctors in the ambulance constantly advised caution over speed bumps and rough patches. The police were extremely helpful in clearing traffic obstructions." He expressed his happiness at delivering the child to the hospital on time and wished for the infant's speedy recovery.

The medical team at Ramakrishna Hospital said they would examine the child, identify the issue, and provide necessary treatment. They acknowledged that performing surgery on a 7-day-old infant is challenging but mentioned a previous successful case where they operated on a 5-day-old baby who is now healthy. The team expressed confidence in their expertise and the timely arrival of the infant, which would enable them to provide the best possible care.
