Coimbatore: The 'Police Akka' program was launched at Dr. N.G.P. Arts and Science College in Coimbatore on September 4. City Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan inaugurated the initiative, which aims to provide support and guidance to college students, particularly female students.

P.R. Muthuswamy, Director of Dr. N.G.P. Educational Institutions, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Nalla Palaniswami, Chairman of Dr. N.G.P. Research and Education Foundation, presided over the event.

Speaking at the launch, Commissioner Balakrishnan emphasized the importance of the program, stating, "College students often hesitate to share their problems with parents or friends. This sometimes leads them to make drastic decisions. It's crucial for students to learn how to use social media platforms safely. Even minor issues can be addressed by consulting the 'Police Akka', who will provide guidance on how to resolve them."

Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Suhasini, addressing the gathering, said, "We are now in an era of gender equality where men and women interact without discrimination. In this environment, women need to draw a boundary for themselves and interact within those limits. Problems arise when these boundaries are crossed."

The 'Police Akka' program is designed to create a safe space for college students, especially female students, to discuss their concerns and seek advice from designated police officers. This initiative is expected to bridge the gap between students and law enforcement, promoting a safer and more supportive educational environment in Coimbatore.
