Coimbatore: In a shocking incident that unfolded on Teachers' Day, a 39-year-old teacher was arrested by the Periyanaickenpalayam All Women Police for allegedly using inappropriate language with a female student near Coimbatore. The accused, identified as Ayyasamy, son of Narayanasamy from Kannarpalayam near Karamadai, was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

The incident took place at a government school in the Periyanaickenpalayam subdivision, where Ayyasamy was teaching a practical science class for 7th-grade students. He was part of a private organization's initiative called "Namma Ooru Namma Palli" (Our Town, Our School).

According to reports, a 9th-grade female student approached Ayyasamy and asked when he would be teaching their class. In response, Ayyasamy allegedly made an inappropriate comment, saying, "I'll come at 11 PM, keep a mat ready." The shocked student reported the incident to the school authorities and filed a complaint at the Periyanaickenpalayam All Women Police Station.

Inspector Indrani Sophia conducted an investigation, during which Ayyasamy reportedly admitted to making the inappropriate remark. Based on this confession, the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Ayyasamy.

The accused was then produced before the court and subsequently sent to prison. This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, especially given that it occurred on Teachers' Day, a day meant to honor and respect educators.
