Hindu Munnani Demands Two-Day TASMAC Closure for Vinayagar Chaturthi

Hindu Munnani State President Kadeswara Subramaniam urges Tamil Nadu government to close TASMAC shops for two days during Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations. The festival will see 1.65 million idol installations across the state.

Tirupur: Hindu Munnani State President Kadeswara Subramaniam has urged the Tamil Nadu government to close TASMAC (liquor) shops for two days in observance of Vinayagar Chaturthi. The festival is set to be celebrated on the 7th, with idol installations scheduled for the previous day in various locations.

Speaking to reporters, Subramaniam announced that Hindu Munnani plans to install 150,000 Vinayagar idols across Tamil Nadu. Additionally, he estimated that the public would independently set up about 1.5 million idols in homes and neighborhoods. The festivities are slated to last for four days in Tiruppur and five days in Coimbatore.

Subramaniam revealed that an invitation has been extended to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to participate in the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations. "We have invited him not only to convey his wishes but also to join in the celebrations, as is customary for festivals of other religions," he stated.

The Hindu Munnani leader expressed concern over alleged restrictions on idol installations in some areas, claiming it fuels religious fervor among Hindus. He announced that in Tiruppur district alone, Hindu Munnani would install Vinayagar idols at 1,500 locations. Union Minister L. Murugan is expected to participate in the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations in Tiruppur.

Subramaniam called for an end to what he described as police pressure against idol installations in certain areas. He also demanded that the government identify and take action against Bangladeshi nationals residing in Tiruppur through intelligence operations.

Several Hindu Munnani officials were present at the press meet.
