'Digi Yatra' Initiative Launched at Coimbatore International Airport

Union Minister inaugurates 'Digi Yatra' at Coimbatore International Airport via video conference, enhancing passenger convenience through digital check-ins and facial recognition technology.

Coimbatore: The 'Digi Yatra' initiative was launched today at the Coimbatore International Airport, marking a significant step towards digitizing air travel experiences.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, inaugurated the 'Digi Yatra' scheme via video conference from an event held at Visakhapatnam Airport yesterday. This initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aims to enhance convenience for air passengers.

In its first phase, the 'Digi Yatra' facility was implemented at airports in Delhi, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Vijayawada, Pune, Mumbai, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati. The second phase of implementation includes airports in Coimbatore, Patna, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Goa (Dabolim), Indore, Bagdogra, and Visakhapatnam.

Airport officials explained that typically, passengers have to wait in long queues to obtain their boarding passes. To simplify this process and promote digitalization, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has introduced the 'Digi Yatra' app.

Passengers need to first download the 'Digi Yatra' app and register their details including mobile number, boarding pass, Aadhaar, and photograph. Upon scanning the boarding pass, a unique QR code is generated.

Using this QR code, passengers can proceed through a specially designated lane at the airport. By showing their mobile phone details and face to a digital device, they can gain instant approval for entry. It's important to note that all documents should be linked to the registered mobile number.

This digital initiative is expected to significantly reduce waiting times and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers at Coimbatore International Airport.
