Monkey Menace in Kooduththurai Hill Area Near Mettupalayam: Pet Cat Killed, Dog Injured

A rampaging monkey in Kooduththurai hill area near Mettupalayam killed a pet cat and severely injured a dog. Residents demand Forest Department intervention to capture and relocate the aggressive primate.

Coimbatore: The Kooduththurai hill area near Samayapuram, under the Mettupalayam forest range in Coimbatore district, is facing a serious monkey menace. The incident has left local residents in fear and demanding immediate action from the Forest Department.

The area, home to over a hundred residents, is situated near the Bhavani River and adjacent to the Western Ghats. Due to its proximity to the forest, the region frequently experiences movement of various wild animals, including monkeys.

In a recent shocking incident, a monkey attacked and killed a pet cat belonging to Thangamani, a local resident. The primate reportedly tore open the cat's abdomen, resulting in its tragic death. The same monkey also attacked two nearby dogs, inflicting severe injuries to their necks.

The aggressive behavior of the monkey has raised concerns among the residents about the safety of children in the area. They fear that the primate might target humans, especially children, in future attacks.

Kooduththurai residents are urging the Forest Department to take swift action. They have requested officials to set up traps to capture the troublesome monkey and relocate it to a dense forest area, away from human habitation.

The incident highlights the growing human-wildlife conflict in areas bordering forest regions. It also underscores the need for a comprehensive strategy to manage such situations and ensure the safety of both humans and animals in these buffer zones.
