Coimbatore: Residents of Kandiyur area in Gemmarampalaiyam panchayat near Karamadai, Coimbatore district, staged a road blockade on Thursday morning (September 7) to protest the lack of drinking water supply in their area for the past week. The agitated public sat on the road with empty pots, disrupting traffic and drawing attention to their plight.

The situation escalated when the protesters temporarily detained a government bus passing through the area, causing a momentary surge of tension. Upon receiving information about the incident, officials from the Karamadai police station and the panchayat president rushed to the spot to address the issue.

The panchayat president engaged in discussions with the protestors and assured them that temporary arrangements would be made to supply drinking water to the affected areas. Following this assurance, the public dispersed, and the road blockade was lifted.

This incident highlights the ongoing water scarcity issues faced by residents in certain parts of Coimbatore district. Local authorities are now expected to take swift action to address the water supply problem in Kandiyur and surrounding areas to prevent further public unrest.
