Woman Arrested for Attempted Pickpocketing at Coimbatore Bus Stop

A 48-year-old woman from Tiruvannamalai was arrested for attempting to steal a purse from an auto driver's handbag at Kavundampalayam bus stop in Coimbatore on September 7.


Coimbatore: A vigilant auto driver and quick-thinking bystanders helped catch a pickpocket in the act at Kavundampalayam bus stop in Coimbatore on Thursday, September 7.

Sangeetha, a 39-year-old auto driver from Saamundeeswarai Nagar in Kavundampalayam, was waiting at the bus stop when the incident occurred. She had placed her handbag on the ground beside her.

A woman approached Sangeetha and discreetly attempted to remove the wallet from her handbag. Sangeetha, noticing the theft attempt, was shocked but quickly reacted. With the help of nearby bystanders, she apprehended the suspect and handed her over to the Kavundampalayam police.

Upon investigation, the police identified the accused as Alamelu, a 48-year-old woman from Kattamadavai in Tiruvannamalai district. The police subsequently arrested Alamelu for the attempted theft.

This incident serves as a reminder for the public to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, especially in crowded areas like bus stops where pickpockets may operate.
