Coimbatore: The decomposed body of a 60-year-old woman was found in her locked house in Kovaipudur, Coimbatore, on Thursday (Sept. 7). The deceased, identified as Pushpa, was an unmarried woman who lived alone in her residence on PK Chetty Street.

Neighbors reported a strong foul odor emanating from Pushpa's house, prompting them to alert her relatives and the police. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials broke open the door and discovered Pushpa's body in a state of decomposition.

According to sources, Pushpa was known to be a recluse who rarely interacted with others. Her relatives would occasionally visit her, with the last reported visit occurring about a week ago.

The police have seized the body and sent it to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. The Ukkadam police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the cause of death.

Authorities are exploring various possibilities, including whether Pushpa died due to health issues or if there were any other circumstances surrounding her demise. The exact time of death is yet to be established, but it is estimated that she may have passed away several days before the discovery of her body.

Local residents expressed shock at the incident, highlighting the importance of community vigilance, especially for those living alone. The police have urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or prolonged absences of neighbors, particularly elderly individuals living by themselves.

As the investigation continues, the Ukkadam police are gathering more information about Pushpa's recent activities and her medical history to shed light on the circumstances leading to her untimely death.
