College Student Dies by Suicide in Coimbatore

A 23-year-old engineering student in Coimbatore died by suicide at his home. The incident occurred on September 7, following prolonged mental distress and a previous self-harm attempt.

Coimbatore: A final year engineering student tragically ended his life at his residence in Coimbatore on Thursday (Sept. 7). The deceased, identified as Indrajith (23), was pursuing his fourth year of BE at a private college in the city.

Indrajith was the son of Babitha (42), an IT employee residing in Chinnavedam Patti on Thudiyalur Road. Babitha had been living separately from her husband due to personal differences.

According to sources, Indrajith had been frequently communicating over the phone with a girl from Kotagiri. His mother reportedly reprimanded him for this behavior. Angered by his mother's intervention, Indrajith had threatened her with a knife about two months ago, inflicting wounds on his own hand.

In the days leading up to the incident, Indrajith had been experiencing severe mental distress. On Thursday, when no one was at home, he took the extreme step of ending his life.

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and sent the body to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. The Saravanampatti Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the incident.

This tragic event highlights the importance of mental health awareness and support for young adults, especially students facing academic and personal pressures.
