Police urge Nilgiris tourists to return to Coimbatore by 2 PM for Vinayagar Chaturthi procession

Coimbatore police advise tourists visiting Nilgiris to return by 2 PM on September 9 due to Vinayagar idol immersion processions in Mettupalayam. Traffic disruptions expected on Mettupalayam-Ooty road.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore police have urged tourists visiting the Nilgiris district to return to Coimbatore by 2 PM on September 9, in light of the Vinayagar Chaturthi idol immersion processions scheduled in Mettupalayam. This advisory was issued on September 8 to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize disruptions.

As part of the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations, Hindu Munnani has installed Vinayagar idols at 85 locations in Mettupalayam town, 140 in Karamadai, 35 in Sirumugai, and 40 in Annur. The immersion processions are set to begin at various points and converge at designated locations for the idol immersion ritual.

Idols from the Karamadai area will be taken in a procession from Kannampalayam and immersed in the Bhavani River near Thekkampatti on Monday. Sirumugai area idols will be immersed at Pazhathotam, while those from Annur and Avinashi taluks will be taken to Sirumugai Ellaspalayam. The procession for Mettupalayam and surrounding areas will start near the CTC depot on the Mettupalayam-Coimbatore road around 1 PM.

These processions are expected to cause traffic disruptions on the Mettupalayam-Ooty road. Therefore, the police have advised people who have gone on tours to the Nilgiris district to plan their return journeys accordingly.

Passengers planning to board the Nilgiri Express train or those heading to Coimbatore airport are advised to return to Coimbatore by 2 PM to avoid traffic congestion. This will allow them to travel without facing any delays due to the processions.

The police have emphasized the importance of adhering to this timeline to ensure public safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations.
