Udumalaipettai Municipal Council Members Allege Irregularities in Development Work Tenders

Udumalaipettai municipal council members raise concerns over tender processes, sanitation issues, and stray dog menace during the 23rd ordinary meeting held today at the municipal office.

Coimbatore: The 23rd ordinary meeting of the Udumalaipettai Municipal Council was held today at the municipal office in Tiruppur district, chaired by Council President Matheen. During the meeting, council members raised several concerns regarding the functioning of the municipality and the execution of development works.

Members alleged that sanitation work was not being carried out properly in many areas under the Udumalaipettai municipality. They also pointed out the increasing stray dog population, which has been causing fear among residents, and urged for measures to control the situation.

Another issue brought to attention was the presence of a private liquor shop near educational institutions in the S.V. Puram area. Council members demanded a resolution to remove the liquor shop, considering its proximity to schools and colleges.

Ward 27 representative highlighted the problem of uncleared drainage in Nedunchezhiyan Colony, leading to the presence of poisonous snakes in residential areas. Members also complained about improper maintenance of underground drainage systems.

Former Municipal Chairman and current Ward 33 member Veluchamy raised serious allegations about the tender process. He claimed that council members were not being properly informed about ongoing works in the municipality. Veluchamy also alleged that tenders were being awarded to a single individual, raising questions about the fairness of the process.

Additionally, concerns were raised about the high rental rates of shops in municipal commercial complexes. Members called for action to reduce these rates to support local businesses.

The meeting highlighted the need for transparency in municipal operations and proper implementation of development projects in Udumalaipettai. Council members urged the administration to address these issues promptly to ensure better governance and improved living conditions for residents.
