Substandard Pipes Cause Water Wastage in Avinashi-Athikadavu Scheme Tank Near Annur

A video has surfaced showing water gushing from a burst pipe in a tank constructed under the Avinashi-Athikadavu scheme near Annur, Coimbatore. The incident highlights concerns over the quality of materials used in the project.

Coimbatore: A video has emerged showing water forcefully gushing out of a burst pipe in a tank constructed under the Avinashi-Athikadavu scheme near Annur in Coimbatore district. The incident has raised concerns about the quality of pipes used in the project.

The affected tank, known as Alli Kulam, is located in Allikulam Panchayat near Annur and spans approximately 20 acres. The tank was recently connected to the Avinashi-Athikadavu scheme, with pipes laid to supply water as part of the project.

Within a month of the project's completion and the commencement of water supply to the tank, pipes have started bursting, leading to significant water wastage. In some areas, water is flowing onto roads, further exacerbating the problem. Farmers and locals attribute this issue to the use of substandard pipes instead of high-quality ones, resulting in frequent ruptures and water loss.

The situation has frustrated farmers who had been eagerly awaiting water supply for their agricultural needs. They are now urging authorities to replace the substandard pipes to prevent further water wastage and ensure the scheme's effectiveness.

Residents of the Alli Kulam area have been sharing video footage of the pipe burst on social media platforms, drawing attention to the issue and calling for immediate action from the concerned authorities.
