Coimbatore: The Sri Selva Vinayagar Temple in Sri Devi Nagar, Kathir Nayakkanpalayam near Thudiyalur, Coimbatore, celebrated its first anniversary and Vinayagar Chaturthi with grand festivities. The event featured special pujas, lamp worship, and a traditional "Valli Kummi" performance by the Pavalakkodi group.

As part of the nationwide Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations, the temple, which completed its first year, organized a special Thirukkuda Neerattu (holy pot bathing) ceremony. A 6-foot-tall Vinayagar statue was installed in the temple premises for public worship. The rituals included Ganapati Homam, Thirukkuda Neerattu, Abhishekam, Alankara Pujas, and Maha Deepa Aarti.

More than 50 women participated in the Thiruvizhakku Puja (lamp worship ceremony). The puja began with the placement of traditional items such as oil lamps, turmeric, kumkum, yellow thread, rice, bangles, fruits, betel leaves, areca nuts, and loose flowers. The ceremony included the chanting of 108 Amman Potri songs, followed by annadanam (food offering) for all attendees.

The celebrations continued with a captivating Valli Kummi performance by the Pavalakkodi group. Over 30 women and children, dressed in matching attire, performed the traditional dance, much to the delight of the gathered crowd.

Ward Councillor Rajamani presided over the event, with social activist Sridevi as the guest of honor. The festivities were attended by prominent local figures including District Councillor Karthi, Union Councillor Arusamy, former Union Councillor Saravanan, and Zonal Leader Bhuvaneswaran. Sri Devi Nagar residents Vasantha Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Chandru, Vadivel, Hanmanth, Kamalesh, Hari, Gopi, and Kishore were also present among the 500-plus attendees.
