Coimbatore: Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS), in collaboration with UYIR Club Coimbatore, organized a Road Safety Awareness Campaign Script Screening Session on September 2, 2024. The event, held from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the KCLAS VISCOM Studio, was a crucial component of the 30-Second Public Service Advertising (PSA) Competition aimed at raising awareness on road safety.

The campaign focused on critical issues such as helmet use, speeding, drunk driving, pedestrian safety, and seatbelt use. Open to all students of Kumaraguru Institutions, the competition encouraged participants to create impactful 30-second public service ads designed to promote safe driving habits and road safety awareness in the community.

An expert panel evaluated the submissions, comprising T.P. Ravichandran, Additional Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Traffic Planning, Coimbatore; Raja Rajan, a filmmaker; Dr. Deepesh C, Vice Principal, KCLAS; Dr. N. Balu, Deputy Dean, School of Management, KCLAS; Dr. Leo Gertrude, Head, Visual Communication department, KCLAS; and Dr. Devika, Assistant Professor, KCLAS Visual Communication department. Dr. Vijila Edwin Kennedy, Principal of KCLAS, was also present at the event.

The judging criteria focused on script originality, message clarity, impact, and adherence to the theme of road safety. Participants whose scripts were selected stood a chance to win cash rewards to support the production of their PSA, along with certificates of participation.

The winners of the competition were:

1. Lavanya Varshini S. and Team

2. Dhanush S. and Team

3. Pavan Krishay G. and Team

These winning teams were commended for their creative storytelling and ability to deliver clear, engaging messages that align with the goals of road safety. Their scripts effectively addressed important aspects such as promoting helmet use, discouraging speeding and drunk driving, and emphasizing the importance of pedestrian safety.

This initiative by KCLAS and UYIR Club Coimbatore marks a significant step toward fostering a culture of safety and responsibility on the roads, particularly among young people. By engaging students in creating impactful public service announcements, the competition not only raises awareness but also encourages active participation in promoting road safety within the community.
