Coimbatore: The Malayali community in Udumalaipettai, Tirupur district, celebrated the Onam festival with great enthusiasm and traditional fervor. Residents from various areas including Ramasamy Nagar, Arumuga Nagar, Senthur Garden, and Green Park Layout participated in the festivities, marking the annual harvest festival of Kerala.

The celebration centered around the legend of King Mahabali, who is believed to visit his former kingdom during Onam. They prepared a grand feast of 21 different dishes, known as Onasadya, which was served on banana leaves as an offering to King Mahabali.

The festive spirit was further heightened by the exchange of greetings among relatives and friends. Traditional games and dance performances added to the joyous atmosphere, with participants dressed in traditional attire. The celebration not only honored the cultural heritage of Kerala but also fostered a sense of community among the Malayali residents of Udumalaipettai.

This vibrant celebration of Onam in Udumalaipettai reflects the cultural diversity of Tamil Nadu and the harmonious coexistence of different communities. It serves as a reminder of the rich tapestry of traditions that contribute to the state's cultural landscape.
