Elderly Man Arrested for Sexual Harassment of Polytechnic Student Near Annur

A 60-year-old man was arrested under the POCSO Act for sexually harassing a 16-year-old polytechnic student near Annur, Coimbatore. The incident occurred last week when the student was walking on the road.


Coimbatore: In a disturbing incident near Annur, Coimbatore, a 60-year-old man has been arrested for sexually harassing a 16-year-old polytechnic student. The accused, identified as Padmanathan from Nalli Chettipalayam, was taken into custody under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The victim, a resident of a village near Annur, is currently studying at a private polytechnic college in Coimbatore. The incident occurred last week when the young student was walking along the road. Padmanathan allegedly approached the boy and sexually harassed him.

Following the incident, the distressed student reached out to the Child Helpline for assistance. Suriyamani, the supervisor of the Child Helpline organization, promptly filed a complaint at the Annur Police Station on behalf of the victim.

Acting on the complaint, Inspector (in-charge) Nirmala from the Mettupalayam All Women Police Station registered a case under the POCSO Act. The accused, Padmanathan, was subsequently arrested on September 17th.

This incident has once again highlighted the importance of child safety and the need for vigilance in protecting minors from sexual predators. The swift action taken by the authorities in this case demonstrates their commitment to addressing such serious offenses against children.
