Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, five individuals were arrested in Coimbatore for attempting to force a minor girl into prostitution. The arrests were made following a raid conducted by the Karamadai police on September 20.

The Child Welfare Officer at the Coimbatore Collector's office, Rajeswari, received information about a minor girl being used for prostitution in the Shiva Nagar area of Karamadai. Acting on this tip-off, she filed a complaint at the Karamadai police station.

Inspector Gnanasekaran of Karamadai police station led a team that swiftly conducted a raid on a house in Shiva Nagar. During the operation, they rescued a 15-year-old girl from Karamadai who was about to be forced into the sex trade. The police arrested five individuals at the scene: Dharmaraj (23) from Palladam Ichipatty, Rajadurai (30) from Tiruvannamalai, Monisha (23) from Ooty, Geetha (24) from Veppampattu in Tiruvallur, and Bhavani (24) from Chennai.

The suspects were taken to Karamadai police station for intensive interrogation. Authorities are investigating whether the group had involved other minors in prostitution, the locations where such activities took place, and the number of people connected to this network. The police also confiscated the mobile phones of the arrested individuals to analyze call records and trace potential links.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the five arrested individuals were friends. Monisha, the arrested woman from Ooty, had been staying in Karamadai for a few months. During this time, her sister became acquainted with the 15-year-old victim, which led to Monisha befriending the minor girl. Exploiting this friendship, Monisha allegedly took the girl to various places and lured her with false promises.

The police found no incriminating evidence on the seized mobile phones. The five accused have been booked under various sections of the POCSO Act and for attempting to push a minor into prostitution. They were produced before a court and subsequently remanded to the Coimbatore Central Prison. The rescued minor girl has been placed in a government home in Coimbatore for care and protection.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and stricter measures to protect minors from exploitation.
