TNAU Signs MoU with Reliance Bio Energy Limited for Energy Plantation Research

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Reliance Bio Energy Limited signed an MoU on September 20, 2024, to identify specific fodder crops for energy plantation, addressing the growing demand for renewable energy sources.

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Reliance Bio Energy Limited (RBEL), Mumbai, to collaborate on identifying specific fodder crops for energy plantation. The agreement was signed on September 20, 2024, in the presence of Dr. R. Tamizh Vendan, Registrar of TNAU.

The collaboration comes at a time when there is an increasing demand for energy, and fodder crops are emerging as potential biomass crops for renewable resources with high energy potential. The Department of Forage Crops at the Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, TNAU, Coimbatore, has developed fodder crop varieties known for their high biomass yield. Notably, Bajra Napier grass, with its organic composition and very high biomass potential, has been identified as an ideal feedstock for energy plantation.

Dr. R. Tamizh Vendan, Registrar, signed the MoU on behalf of TNAU, while Bashir Ahmed Shirazi, Chief Operating Officer of RBEL, Mumbai, signed for Reliance Bio Energy Limited. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. R. Ravikesavan, Director of Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, Dr. R.
