Coimbatore: Man Arrested for Posing as Beggar by Day, Burglar by Night

A man from Virudhunagar was arrested in Coimbatore for attempting to rob a fruit shop in Sulur. He posed as a beggar during the day and burgled shops at night wearing a helmet.

Coimbatore: The Sulur police have arrested a man who ingeniously posed as a beggar during the day and transformed into a helmet-wearing burglar at night. The accused, identified as Ramasamy from Virudhunagar district, was caught after attempting to rob a popular fruit shop on Kalangal Road in Sulur, Coimbatore.

The shop owner, Abbas, usually opens his store at 8 AM and closes by 10 PM daily. Two days ago, when Abbas arrived at his shop in the morning, he found the cash register broken into. Surprisingly, nothing had been stolen. He immediately filed a complaint at the Sulur Police Station.

Upon investigating the CCTV footage, police discovered a mysterious figure wearing a helmet entering the shop after breaking in. Further analysis of the surveillance videos revealed a shocking pattern. The same man who attempted the burglary at night was seen lying in front of the shop during the day, disguised as a beggar.

This modus operandi allowed Ramasamy to scout his targets under the guise of a homeless person during daylight hours. At night, he would don a helmet to conceal his identity and break into the shops he had observed earlier.

Following the investigation, the police apprehended Ramasamy. He was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody on September 24. The case has been registered, and further investigations are underway to uncover any potential links to other unsolved burglaries in the area.
