Coimbatore: Minister for Medical and Family Welfare Ma. Subramanian inaugurated and inspected a new 24-hour advanced emergency care unit at GKNM Hospital today. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and improved infrastructure facilities.

The event was attended by special guests including Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati and Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran.

Also present were R. Gopinath, Vice Chairman of Govindasamy Naidu Trust, Dr. Raghupathy Velusamy, CEO of GKNM Hospital, and several doctors from the hospital.

Speaking at the event, Minister Ma. Subramanian highlighted that GKNM Hospital is one of the landmarks in Tamil Nadu's medical field. He mentioned that GKNM Hospital had been raising awareness about cancer for over a decade.

The Minister announced that following the Chief Minister's guidance, a cancer screening program was launched last year in four districts - Erode, Tirupattur, Ranipet, and Kanyakumari - for all citizens above 18 years of age. He reported that over 110 people were identified with cancer through this initiative. He further stated that the government has decided to extend this cancer detection program to all 38 revenue districts across Tamil Nadu this year and is currently planning its implementation.

Ma. Subramanian highlighted 36 healthcare schemes being implemented in Tamil Nadu, including Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, Innuyir Kappom Nammai Kaakkum 48, Kalaignar's Varumun Kappom, and Paadham Padhukappom. He emphasized that more than ten of these schemes are unique and not found in any other country worldwide.

The Minister announced that the financial assistance provided under the Innuyir Kappom Nammai Kaakkum 48 scheme would soon be increased from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakhs.

Ma. Subramanian also requested GKNM Hospital to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the government to collaborate on initiatives related to cancer and heart disease management.
