Three Separate Theft Incidents Reported in Coimbatore

Coimbatore police are investigating three separate theft cases involving break-ins, vehicle theft, and chain snatching. The incidents occurred in Singanallur, Saravanampatti, and Ukkadam areas, with valuables worth lakhs stolen.


Coimbatore: The city police are investigating three separate theft incidents that occurred in different parts of Coimbatore over the past few days.

In the first incident, a house break-in was reported in the Singanallur police station limits. Somasundaram (64), a resident of the area, had locked his house and gone to Chennai with his family to visit his younger daughter a few days ago. On October 8, Somasundaram received a call from his relative Lokesh, informing him that the house door was found open.

Shocked by the news, Somasundaram immediately returned to Coimbatore. Upon inspection, he discovered that 9.25 sovereigns of gold jewelry, 210 grams of silver items, and Rs. 20,000 in cash were missing from the bureau. Somasundaram filed a complaint with the Singanallur police station today, and the police have registered a case and are investigating.

In another incident, Rs. 80,000 was stolen from a goods auto in Saravanampatti. Sakthivel (48), a resident of Sanarpatti in Dindigul district, runs an apple business using a goods auto. On the day of the incident, Sakthivel had parked his vehicle in front of a hotel in the Saravanampatti area and went inside to have food. When he returned, he found that Rs. 80,000 in cash from his sales was missing from the auto. Sakthivel filed a complaint with the Ramanathapuram police station on October 9, and an investigation is underway.

In the third incident, a chain snatching case was reported on a city bus. Somasundaram (55), a resident of Gaundampalayam, boarded a bus from Ukkadam bus stand to Gaundampalayam on October 8. While alighting at Gaundampalayam, he realized that his 2-sovereign gold chain had been stolen. Somasundaram filed a complaint with the Gaundampalayam police station, and the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

The Coimbatore City Police are working on solving these cases and have intensified patrolling in various areas to prevent such incidents in the future.
